Fig Trees Branching Out

It has been almost a year and a half since I unpacked my fig “sticks” and stuck them in some soil in a pot. While they grew leaves fairly quickly, no additional branches developed during the first season. When it was warm enough, I put them out on the deck, fertilized and left them alone with the occasional watering.

Now it is getting cooler and they can’t survive very cold weather. I will prune the roots and do anything else necessary (which isn’t too much). They had a much better year and are finally branching out although not drastically. They also don’t look like the pictures in the catalog where they were purchased. I can only hope that we are getting closer to figs in the future!
