Rain down a vent

When it rains, it can drip into your house! This little tropical depression sent rain down a vent in our hallway. The drip didn’t start until it was dark, as seems to be the prime time for incidents like this. It sounded like it was coming down the new furnace’s vent pipe but nothing was leaking inside the house that we could locate that evening. Rick slept the sleep of a man who gets up before dawn for work so I listened to the rain go plink, plink, plink all night.

Checking inside and repairing outside while its raining.

More Rain

After hubby headed to work this morning, the rain kept coming and the drip kept dripping. I finally took the furnace cover off and got my hand up where I could feel the wetness. A few hours later, Rick was home and it was time to do some leak repair. The rain was definately going down a vent on the roof and running straight down. First step was to go in the crawlspace and see where else the water was going. That entailed the crawl space. Besides a few spashes, the rain had run straight down and drained out the bottom without too much getting wet.

Ending the Vent Leak

It was still misting rain but up the ladder Rick went and he sealed all around the vent for the furnace. It is obvious that the roof needs to be next on replacement. For now, no more rain down a vent but more leaks are on the horizon. While I am an excellent ladder holder and he’s an amazing maintence guy, neither of us are capable of roof repair. For now we are nice and dry however, and I will get a good sleep without the sound of rain drips.
